Latto settled the rap internet’s favorite guessing game on Thursday, then declined to throw the punch everyone wanted. The Atlanta rapper went on “The Breakfast Club” and confirmed the bars on her new song “Gimme Dat” are about Cardi B, before adding she would rather hash it out in private.
Latto told the hosts the track, off her album “Big Mama,” answers Cardi calling her out of her name during a leaked rant about Ice Spice. She said she was pregnant and rushed her verse onto the “ErrTime” remix last September to pad Cardi’s first-week sales, only to watch a friend trash her online days later.
On “Gimme Dat,” Latto answers with a flex about her own money rather than a knockout blow. She said the song was never a textbook diss, just what was happening in her life, though the whole thing “left a bad taste in my mouth.” The two have each other’s numbers, she said, so a public apology never sat right. It has been a loud stretch for Cardi, who recently waved off a viral parking-lot argument with Stefon Diggs.
Cardi responded on X soon after the interview aired, writing that she apologized in public because the disrespect was public, and that she had tried reaching Latto through her manager, her sister and direct texts.
