For years, Sia hid behind her iconic wigs. Now she’s hiding from something far messier — a custody war that’s spiraling into a public spectacle she never wanted.
This week, a Los Angeles judge shut down ex-husband Daniel Bernad’s emergency plea for full custody of their 1-year-old son, Somersault Wonder Bernad. Bernad accused the “Chandelier” singer of being a “serious and immediate danger” to their child, over alleged drug use.
But the court wasn’t buying it.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the judge ruled that most of Daniel’s so-called “new evidence” was actually old gossip. This was stuff already covered in August when the couple agreed on a temporary custody deal. The deal gave Sia primary custody and Daniel monitored visits only.
Drug Abuse & Child Pornography
In his filing, Bernad claimed Sia had recently been hospitalized for substance abuse and tested positive for barbiturates and benzodiazepines. He even went as far as to demand weekly random drug tests and $77,000 in monthly child support.
Sia, with powerhouse attorney Laura Wasser — Hollywood’s go-to divorce lawyer — fired back hard, calling the allegations “entirely unfounded and misleading.”
The “Unstoppable” singer said she’s been six months sober. She is enrolled in a structured recovery program and more than willing to take regular drug tests. This is something she says Dan refused to do himself.
Her statement to the court cut deep:
“Dan’s attempt to weaponize my past sobriety journey serves no legitimate purpose and is intended only to distort the facts and undermine my credibility.”
The Twist No One Saw Coming
And while Bernad’s team painted Sia as unstable, her lawyer reminded the court why he had only supervised visitation in the first place. An LAPD investigation into child pornography hung over Daniel earlier this year. Though no charges were filed, the cloud hasn’t exactly lifted.
Bernad has denied everything, even accusing Sia of “planting evidence” to make him look bad.
Behind Closed Doors
A source told People the whole ordeal has left the usually private artist “heartbroken.”
“She’s devastated that something so private has turned into a headline,” the insider said. “She’s incredibly protective of her family, and this attention has been very painful.”
The marriage lasted barely two years, ending in March when Sia filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. It’s her second failed marriage, after her 2016 split from filmmaker Erik Lang.
For now, the court has sided with Sia. She keeps primary custody, and Daniel keeps supervised visits. The war of words continues.
From “Cheap Thrills” to expensive lawyers, the hitmaker who once sang “I’m unstoppable” is learning that sometimes, the hardest battle isn’t on the charts — it’s in court.
