The 2026 Oscars had barely gotten started and Conan O’Brien was already starting trouble.
The 62 year old host opened the show with a playful but pointed jab at Timothée Chalamet, who was sitting in the audience looking perfectly relaxed next to his partner of three years, Kylie Jenner.
Kylie, 28, showed up looking like she came to shut the red carpet down in a slinky red gown that was giving full Jessica Rabbit energy. Timothée, 30, looked completely at ease beside her, at least until Conan decided to make them the first punchline of the night.
“Security is extremely tight tonight…” Conan teased, setting up what sounded like a serious moment.
Naturally, the room braced for a political jab.
Instead, Conan swerved.
“I’m told there’s concerns about attacks from both the opera and ballet communities,” he joked.
The camera immediately cut to Timothée, who started giggling as the crowd caught on.
Then Conan dropped the punchline.
“They are just mad you left out jazz!”
Timothée laughed it off like a pro.
But sitting right next to him, Kylie looked a little less amused.
She shifted slightly in her seat and flashed a polite smile that looked just a bit tight. The kind of smile people give when they’re trying to be a good sport but aren’t totally sure what the joke was.
Maybe the punchline flew over her head. Or maybe she just wasn’t in the mood to be part of Conan’s opening monologue.
Either way, viewers online were quick to clock the moment.
Within minutes, social media lit up with people pointing out that Kylie seemed visibly uncomfortable while Conan kept the joke going.
From the outside, the couple tried to play it off like good sports.
