The wings era used to come with a vow of normalcy backstage. Cara Delevingne walked the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 2012 and 2013, the brand at its fan-vote peak, and per a new sit-down with Alex Cooper she spent both runs wondering whether she was the only lesbian in the building.
On the latest “Call Her Daddy,” Delevingne told Cooper she was in the closet through her Angel-era walks. “I was in the closet, I was gay, I was also like, am I the only lesbian that’s ever done … Victoria’s Secret? Like this is a big deal,” she said. “I was having a great time, but also like very confused. I felt like I was an undercover lesbian.”
The press that year introduced her as one of three "new Angels" alongside Jourdan Dunn and Hilary Rhoda, though Delevingne only ever walked the show, debuting in 2012 and returning in 2013 before dropping off. Victoria's Secret retired the runway show in 2019. The model who was wondering backstage outlasted the format. Delevingne came out as pansexual in 2020, dated "Pretty Little Liars" actress Ashley Benson from 2018 to 2020, and confirmed she's a lesbian last month at a Rosalía concert in London. The "Call Her Daddy" episode is the first interview where she's named the closet years by brand.
